Technical Design Work
Below are some examples of my scenic technical design work
Phantom of the Opera
Opera Box Escape Stairs
During my summer at PRG I was assigned to work on the Opera Box unit of the 2025 Networks Phantom Tour. One of the key components of this unit was the escape stairs. They needed to travel as their own unit on travel casters, fit in a truck, and fit very specific dimensions making them susceptible to tipping. In order to prevent this I preformed force calculations in the weak direction of the unit to determine the amount of weight that needed to be added to the base to counteract a pushing force. Another challenge of this unit was the fact that it needed to have fork pockets, travel casters and show casters that didn't hit each other in both the travel and show positions.
Phantom of the Opera
Opera Box Unit
During my summer at PRG I was assigned to work on the Opera Box unit of the 2025 Networks Phantom Tour. This unit was four stories, aligned with a header, broke into four tiers for travel, and supported actors. It tracked on and off stage and contained automated sort goods as well as manually operated aution silks. As assistant designer for this unit, I designed the framing of tier two and all of the facing detail work for all four tiers. I also had to design custom fabricated cane bolt attachments to attach the escape stairs to this unit during the show.
Austen's Pride
Landscape Cyc Stretcher Frame
During my summer at PRG I worked on a new show entitled Austen's Pride. For this show I was designing a stretcher frame for a landscape cyc drop. I used PRG's standared design for a stretcher frame and modified it to fit the criteria of this particular drop. I also created an assembly of the stretcher frame installed on PRG rental truss since that is what this drop will be hanging on while on tour.
Phantom of the Opera
Opera Box Unit
During my summer at PRG I was assigned to work on the Opera Box unit of the 2025 Networks Phantom Tour. I also designed the framing for tier 2 of the opera box. This section had a railing that needed to be designed around custom foam carvings from a previous West End production of this tour. This section also needed to align with my escape stairs using the custom cane bolts I designed, and allow for actors to stand on the platform during the show.
